Division II Wildcats Hold On To Defeat UWO Football Team

NCAA Division II member Northern Michigan University kicked a go-ahead field goal early in the fourth quarter and held on for a 13-10 over the nationally ranked Division III UW-Oshkosh football team Saturday (Sept. 10) in Marquette, Mich.

Daniel Riser drilled a 25-yard field goal for a 13-10 Northern Michigan lead with 14:30 remaining in the game. Northern Michigan (1-1) turned the ball over on downs at the UW-Oshkosh 17-yard line with four seconds to play, but the Titans' attempt at laterals on the final play was stopped at their own 27-yard line as time expired.

The Wildcats owned a 10-0 lead midway through the second quarter following a Riser 42-yard field goal at the 9:13 mark of the opening period and a 43-yard touchdown pass from Zach Keen to Kenyon'TA Skinner with 9:06 to go in the second quarter. The touchdown was Keen's lone pass attempt of the game.

UW-Oshkosh (1-1), ranked 17th in the country by D3football.com, cut its deficit to 10-3 at intermission on a 21-yard Nolan Mobley field goal then knotted the score at 10 at the 7:47 mark of the third quarter following an 11-yard touchdown pass from Kobe Berghammer to Tony Steger. The touchdown pass was Berghammer's fifth of the season and Steger's second scoring grab in as many games on the year.

Berghammer went 18 of 36 passing for 260 yards with one touchdown and one interception.

Steger and Trae Tetzlaff both had a team-leading six receptions for the Titans. Tetzlaff led all players with 103 receiving yards while Steger had 80.
