Men's Basketball and Hillsdale Ready for Midweek Tilt

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University men's basketball program (2-1 overall) returns to the court on Wednesday night for a matchup at former GLIAC member, Hillsdale (3-3 overall) with tip-off scheduled for 6:00 p.m.

STORYLINES
Wayne State plays its final non-conference game of the season at Hillsdale on Wednesday.  The Warriors will return to action after the Thanksgiving break on Dec. 5th at Ferris State and will not be at home until Jan. 9th.

THE SERIES
Wayne State has played Hillsdale 84 times since the teams began the series in 1932 with the Warriors leading the all-time series 46-38 (15-24 on the road).  The Chargers had won three straight before WSU won in 2016 in Detroit.  Wayne State led in the GLIAC contests 42-35.  Head coach David Greer is 12-16 (2-10 on the road) vs. Hillsdale.

SCOUTING THE CHARGERS
Hillsdale sits at 3-3 overall and will meet its third consecutive GLIAC foe after falling at Ferris State, but winning at home versus Davenport.  Head coach John Tharp is in his 13th season with the program.

The Chargers have three players scoring at least 10 points per game led by junior forward Davis Larson at 15.5 points per game.  Senior guard Dylan Lowry is scoring 14.3 points per night, while redshirt freshman forward Patrick Cartier is chipping in 11.7 points per contest.  Larson is the team's top rebounder at 6.2 boards per game, while junior guard Connor Hill is dishing out 3.3 helpers per night.  As a team, Hillsdale is scoring 74.0 points and allowing 64.8 points per game.  The Chargers are shooting 47.7 percent from the floor, 29.4 percent from three-point range and 72.5 percent from the free throw line.

INSTANT OFFENSE
Senior guard Brailen Neely has provided an instant offensive threat for the Warriors.  The Oakland transfer played 48 minutes in the season opener and scored 23 points before totaling 26 points at Lake Erie.  He connected on three triples in each of the first two contests.  Neely knocked down four three-pointers and finished with 14 points in the win at Lewis.
Neely has also provided a spark on defense with five steals to go with 18 rebounds and 11 assists.

DOUBLE-OVERTIME THRILLER
Wayne State and Ohio Dominican started the season in style on Nov. 8th.  The Warriors fell 87-86 in double overtime.  It was the first overtime game to begin a season for WSU since the 2001-02 season when the Warriors lost to Northwood in one overtime.

SHARP SHOOTER
Junior Darian Owens-White is cementing himself as one of the better shooters in the GLIAC and in program history.  He led the league in three-point field goal percentage (.466 / 61-of-131) during the 2018-19 season.  For his career, Owens-White ranks fifth in school history in three-point field goal percentage (.430 / 68-of-158 / min. 25 made) and is tied-for-22nd in three-pointers made (68).

GREER BACK FOR 19TH SEASON
Head coach David Greer is in his 19th season as the top man on the Warriors' bench.  He equaled the school record for years as head men's basketball coach last season, joining Newman Ertell (1929-48) and Joel Mason (1948-66) at 18 years on the WSU bench.

MR. DOUBLE-DOUBLE
Karim Murray notched his sixth career double-double at Lewis on Nov. 16th with 20 points and 10 rebounds.  He had four last season, including a 23-point and 13-rebound performance vs. Ferris State on Nov. 29, 2018.

FRESH FACES
The Warriors added seven newcomers during the offseason, including four transfers who hope to push the Green & Gold back into the postseason.  Three of those transfers are joining the squad from DI programs, including James Gordon IV (Toledo), Brailen Neely (Oakland) and Naji Ozeir (Michigan).  The other transfer is Avery Lewis, brother of former Warrior Michael Lewis, who will sit out this season due to GLIAC transfer rules.

The incoming freshmen include Kylin Grant (Detroit Renaissance), Nate Talbot (Lake Orion) and Cadin Augustine (Ypsilanti).

The newcomers have announced their presence early in the season as Gordon has totaled 43 points and 22 rebounds in three games, while Talbot has 16 points, nine rebounds in 64 minutes played, Grant has eight points, 15 boards in 63 minutes and Augustine has posted seven points, 13 rebounds in 57 minutes played.
