Women's Tennis Falls 5-2 at Palm Beach Atlantic

WSU's 16-match winning streak was ended by the Sailfish.

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- The Wayne State University women's tennis team (16-1 overall) suffered a 5-2 loss at Palm Beach Atlantic (4-4 overall) on Friday.

DOUBLES RESULTS
Junior Linda Liong (Sarawak, Malaysia) and redshirt junior Khadija Da-Silva (Burlington, Ont.) were first off the courts after falling 6-3 to Shelby Groeneveld and Rebecca Keijzerwaard at No. 1 doubles.

At No. 3 doubles, freshman Sabrina Laynes (Saginaw, Mich. / Heritage) and junior Irena van Meer (Amsterdam, Netherlands) dropped their match 6-2 to Elvira Edstrom and Anabelle Robichaud.

Sophomore Laura Cazacu (London, England) and junior Teodora Radu (Ramnicu Valcea, Romania) were last off the courts after notching a 7-6 (8-6) tiebreak victory over Yuliia Russu and Quinty Janssen at No. 2 doubles.

SINGLES RESULTS
At No. 1 singles, Cazacu was first off the courts after falling 6-3, 6-2 to Groeneveld.

Sophomore Carla Jewell (Hobart, Ind.) suffered a 6-3, 6-0 loss against Verena Weindl at No. 6 singles.

At No. 2 singles, Liong was edged 6-4, 6-3 by Keijzerwaard.

Radu tallied the first WSU point after a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Janssen at No. 4 singles.

At No. 5 singles, Laynes was upended 6-2, 6-2.

Da-Silva concluded the match with a 7-5, 6-1 win against Russu at No. 3 singles.

UP NEXT
The 21st-ranked Warriors will travel to No. 5-Nova Southeastern on Saturday for a 12:00 p.m. match.
