Big Rapids, Mich. - The nationally-ranked Ferris State University men's basketball squad suffered an 88-73 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) road setback at Lake Superior State on Thursday (Feb. 10) night inside LSSU's Bud Cooper Gymnasium in Sault Ste. Marie.

The Bulldogs, who were trying to bounce back from their first conference loss earlier in the week, battled the Lakers in a back-and-forth first half of play, building a double-digit lead at one stage before falling behind 36-33 at the break.

In the second half, though, the Lakers exploded for 52 points and limited FSU to 40 in pulling away for the win.

Ferris State turned the ball over 14 times in the contest and the Lakers finished with only six, but had one for most of the game until the final stretch. LSSU also shot 49.2% from the floor and made nine-of-20 (45%) three's while hitting 17-of-33 (51.5%) free throws.

Meanwhile, Ferris State finished shooting 42.1% for the night and went seven-of-22 (31.8%) from long range in addition to 18-of-26 (69.2%) at the charity stripe.

Senior Lee Higgins paced the Bulldogs with a team-high 16 points while Ben Davidson added 12 points off the bench. FSU also got 10 points each from seniors Logan Ryan and Dorian Aluyi on the front line, but both also battled foul trouble.

LSSU got a big night from Kemon Bassett as he notched a game-high 25 points. Malek Adams added 10 points and C.J. Robinson hit four three's to finish with 12 points in the game. David Wren added 10 points off the bench.

FSU did own a slim 34-33 rebounding margin and both teams finished with six offensive boards.

With the setback, the Bulldogs fell to 18-5 overall and 13-2 in the GLIAC and now holds a one-game lead atop the conference standings over second-place Michigan Tech with five regular-season contests remaining.

The Lakers improved to 14-7 overall and 9-6 in conference play.

Ferris State will return home to host Northwood on Monday (Feb. 14) evening with tipoff set for 7:30 p.m. (ET) inside Jim Wink Arena in Big Rapids.
