MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The No. 26-Wayne State University men's tennis team (12-4 overall) collected its second top-five win of the week, defeating No. 1-Barry (9-4 overall) 4-3 on Thursday afternoon at the Buccaneer Tennis Center.  Ben Lakeman (Penzance Cornwall, England) secured the winning point.

SINGLES
After the Warriors claimed the doubles point, Cedric Drenth (Sulzbach, Germany) put the Warriors in front 2-0 with a 6-0, 6-4 victory at No. 5 singles.

The Buccaneers brought themselves back to within win after Luke Laws (Sunderland, England) was upended 0-6, 3-6 at No. 6 singles.

Next, Dom Spicer (London, England) fell 4-6, 2-6 at No. 1 singles, and Barry tied the match 2-2.

Daniel Grey (Wiesbaden, Germany) dropped the first set of his match, but came back to win, 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.  That gave the Warriors a 3-2 advantage.

Barry wouldn't go away, however, knotting the match at 3-3.  Niklas Karcz (Bottrop, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany) dropped his match at No. 2 singles, 3-6, 4-6.

With the match hanging in the balance, Lakeman won a three-set battle, 7-6 (1), 4-6, 6-4.

DOUBLES
The Warriors claimed the doubles point with back-to-back wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.

Drenth and Grey opened the match with a 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles.  The duo is ranked No. 18 in the country.

Following them, the No. 48-ranked pair of Spicer and Laws defeated Barry's No. 10-ranked doubles team by a final score of 6-4 at No. 2 doubles.

At No. 3 doubles, Karcz and Lakeman battled hard, but were upended 4-6.

FROM COACH MORROW
"The energy the boys came out with, I could not be happier.  We took it to them on the doubles courts, and just carried it into singles.  This is a talented, maybe the most talented team in the country, and we came into their house and took it to them.  Every court in singles, we gave it everything we've got.  It was amazing," coach Bryan Morrow said.
