Wayne State takes series opener 13-6 over SVSU

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University baseball team opened a four-game weekend series with Wayne State University with a single, 9-inning game Friday at the SVSU Baseball Complex.

The Cardinals fell behind early and were unable to recover in a 13-6 loss, dropping SVSU to 9-7 overall and 5-4 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Wayne State scored three in the first and four in the third to open a 7-0 lead. The Cardinals got on the board with two in the bottom of the third, including RBI singles from Austin Koin and Tucker Roe.

The Warriors pulled away again, building a 13-2 advantage heading to the bottom of the ninth. SVSU got four back in its last at bat, including RBIs from Jeffrey Reseigh and Todd Paperd.

Hayden Jatczak (3-2) took the loss on the mound, allowing nine runs on 10 hits, walking four and striking out three.

The series will continue with a 7-and-9 doubleheader starting at 12:35 pm Saturday at the SVSU Baseball Complex.
