Bulldog Soccer Falls To Third-Ranked GVSU In League Sunday Showdown

Big Rapids, Mich. - Host and nationally third-ranked Grand Valley State jumped in front early and beat the Ferris State University women's soccer team 7-0 on Sunday (Oct. 27) in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play in Allendale.

The Lakers scored four times in the first 30:27 of the contest to build a commanding lead and added three second-half goals en route to the win.

GVSU limited the Bulldogs to only five total shots and held a 10-0 margin in corner kick tries. The Bulldogs were also called for 13 fouls in the outing.

Bulldog senior goalkeeper Grace Kraft made four saves for the Bulldogs in 27:19 of action with senior Alison Chesterfield stopping five shots in 62:41 of work.

Offensively, Mackenzie Dawes had a team-high two shots for FSU with Emily Mergener registering the Bulldogs' only shot on goal for the afternoon. Jessica Radice earned the win in net for the Lakers with a single save in 90 minutes of work.

The loss was only the third of the season for FSU, which is now 11-3-2 overall and 5-2-1 in GLIAC play. The Bulldogs still sit near the top of the conference with only two contests left in the regular season as they contend for a potential top four finish and a possible quarterfinal-round home contest for the league tournament.

Both of FSU's two remaining regular-season tilts are against Northwood over the next two weeks. FSU first visits NU on Sunday, Nov. 3, for a 2 p.m. (ET) non-league encounter in Midland before hosting the Timberwolves back in Big Rapids on Friday, Nov. 8, in conference action starting at 1 p.m. (ET).
