Eagles clamp down on Huskies 5-0

Eagles clamp down on Huskies 5-0

IRVINE, Calif. - Andrew Freel and Nikolai Prosjankyov picked up a set in doubles, but the Huskies floundered in singles to fall 5-0 at No. 25 Concordia University Irvine Monday morning at CUI Tennis Courts. The Huskies are still in search of an elusive first victory, falling to 0-3 this spring.

Freel and Prosjankyov teamed for a 6-2 win over Adam Large and James Caddies at No. 3 doubles, but the Eagles took No. 1 and No. 3 for the team doubles point. Then in singles, Leon Czamikau (CUI) dispatched Adam Fenjiro (MTU) 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1. Vitor Jordao mustered one game at No. 2 singles and lost 6-0, 6-1 to Jan Simon.

Prosjankyov started slowly but competed hard in his second set against Adam Large, falling 6-0, 6-4. Eli Pinnoo (MTU) also lost to Mike Jansen (CUI) 6-0, 6-2 at No. 4. With the match decided, Andrew Freel and Siddhesh Mahadeswar's singles bouts at the bottom of the singles lineup went unfinished.

"We just missed picking up the doubles points which I feel could have changed the momentum of the match," said head coach Kristin Yep. "It was a very tough fight out there so I give our team credit for competing hard."

The Huskies (0-3) continue their California road trip with a match against Biola Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Biola Tennis Center. Tech finishes the week at Azusa Pacific (Thursday) and Point Loma (Friday).
