Kelser's Big Night Fuels Ferris State To Dominating Victory In Home Opener

Big Rapids, Mich. - Senior guard Walt Kelser returned to the lineup in a big way as the Ferris State men's basketball squad rolled past visiting Olivet College 105-55 in the Bulldogs' home opener on Wednesday (Dec. 30) at Jim Wink Arena.

Kelser poured in a game-high 38 points on 12-of-15 shooting while making nine-of-12 free throws in the triumph. He was one of four FSU players in double-digits as Ferris State notched its first victory of the year.

Behind Kelser's play, the Bulldogs raced to a 58-31 halftime lead and were never threatened in the first of back-to-back games against the Comets. He had 30 points in the opening half of action and missed only a single shot in the first 20 minutes of play. Overall, his 38 points came in 21 minutes of work.

Along with Kelser, the Bulldogs got 11 points from sophomore Vejas Grazulis off the bench to go with 10 points each from guard Ben Davidson and forward Mason Pline, who added 14 rebounds in a double-double effort.

Overall, Ferris State had 16 different players see action in the victory.

The Bulldogs shot nearly 50% from the floor and hit 10-of-33 (30.3%) three's along with 17-of-22 (77.3%) free throws. FSU also owned a 61-31 rebounding margin and dished out 31 assists to go with 16 steals and eight blocked shots.

Defensively, the Bulldogs held Olivet to 31% shooting with the Comets making only six-of-25 (24%) three-pointers and seven-of-12 (58.3%) free throws.

Olivet was led by Big Rapids native Britton Angel, who finished with a team-high 11 points. Both Drew Moore and Tishaun Cooper added 10 points apiece.

The two teams will square off again on Thursday (Dec. 31) with tipoff set for 5 p.m. (ET) inside Jim Wink Arena.
