Laker Men's Tennis Fall to Pride in GLIAC Road Match

FOREST PARK, Ill. - The Lake Superior State University men's tennis program (6-4, 1-1 GLIAC) faced their first setback in conference play, falling to the Purdue Northwest Pride (5-4, 1-0 GLIAC) by a final score of 5-2 on Friday.

All three doubles matches would go down to the wire, but the Pride were able to come away with 6-4 victories in all three spots to sweep doubles play and secure the early 1-0 lead in the match.

Purdue Northwest would then open up singles play by taking the No. 2 singles match, narrowly defeating Lluc Limongi Ollers (Mallorca, Spain) by a score of 6-4, 6-4, but Jordi Fraile Raton (Sant Cugat del Valles, Spain) answered right back with a dominant performance at the No. 4 singles position, winning by a final score of 6-0, 6-2. Raul Velasco Garcia (Barcelona, Spain) was also able to secure a victory in straight sets after an impressive showing in a tiebreaker to end the match at the No. 6 spot 6-4, 7-6(1). However, despite fierce battles that each required a decisive third set to decide a victor, the Pride were able to come out on top over Aaron Osmond (Cheltenham, U.K.), Maxence Hamon (Montreal, Quebec), and Xavier Vicent Navarro (Cocentaina, Spain).

The Lakers will look to bounce back on Saturday, March 25 when they take on the Davenport Panthers with the first serve scheduled for 9 a.m.
