Bulldogs Drop Season Opener To Walsh In Regional Crossover Event

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's basketball team opened the 2021-22 campaign on Saturday (Nov. 13) at the GLIAC-GMAC Challenge in Detroit, falling to Walsh by a 80-64 score at the Wayne State Fieldhouse.

The Bulldogs took a 20-16 lead after the opening quarter, but were outscored 21-5 in the second period as the Cavaliers bolted in front. FSU won the third stanza by a single point, but Walsh finished off the season-opening win by outscoring the Bulldogs 24-19 in the fourth.

Overall, Walsh shot 53% from the floor and limited the Bulldogs to only 33.8% shooting in the neutral site contest. FSU finished seven-of-28 (25%) from long range and 11-of-15 (73.3%) at the free throw stripe.

Four Bulldog starters reached double-figure scoring with Chloe Idoni notching a team-high 20 points. FSU's Kadyn Blanchard finished with 13 points, Mallory McCartney totaled 11 points and Adrienne Anderson produced 10 points in the setback. The four combined for 54 of FSU's 64 total points.

Walsh owned a 41-35 rebounding edge and FSU had 15 turnovers in the setback. The Cavaliers went only three-of-11 (27.3%) from the three-point arc, but connected on 17-of-24 (70.8%) free throws.

The Cavaliers were led by Quionche Carter with 28 points and Mayci Sales, who finished with 25 points and 11 rebounds in a double-double performance.

Idoni added a team-high eight rebounds while Anderson had eight assists for the Bulldogs in the setback.

Ferris State will look to bounce back on Sunday (Nov. 14) as the Bulldogs square off against Lake Erie to wrap up the conference crossover event in Detroit. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. (ET).
