Bulldogs Finish Weekend With League Home Split Versus Saginaw Valley State

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's basketball squad could not complete a weekend home sweep as visiting Saginaw Valley State bounced back to beat FSU 67-52 on Saturday (Feb. 13) at Jim Wink Arena.

The Cardinals, who fell to Ferris State 68-57 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) weekend opener on Friday, connected on 11 three's and shot better than 50% from the three-point arc in the finale to earn the split.

Ferris State was limited to 33.3% shooting from the floor and FSU went only four-of-25 (16%) from long range in comparison to SVSU's 11-of-21 (52.4%) figure from the three-point stripe. Overall, the Cardinals converted 43.4% of their field goals and overcame 21 turnovers to garner the triumph.

For the Bulldogs, freshman Kadyn Blanchard paced FSU with 12 points and junior forward Zoe Anderson added 11 points on the strength of a trio of made three-pointers. FSU also got nine points from freshman guard DeShonna Day and seven points from sophomore guard Mallory McCartney.

Saginaw Valley State had three players reach double-figure scoring with both Maddie Maloney and Kaitlyn Zarycki notching 13 points apiece. Maddie Barrie added 10 points. Zarycki also pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds in a double-double effort while adding five assists and four steals.

Ferris State was outrebounded 39-34 for the game, but dished out 17 assists and came up with 10 steals and four blocked shots. McCartney notched six rebounds, six assists and six steals  while freshman Ariel Jenkins also contributed six boards. 

On the opposite side, Saginaw Valley State compiled 19 assists with seven steals and four blocks. The Cardinals hit 10-of-16 (62.5%) free throws with FSU going eight-of-12 (66.7%) at the charity stripe.

The Cardinals jumped out to a 22-16 lead after the first quarter and pushed the lead to as many as 18 points in the third quarter before FSU outscored SVSU 13-10 in the final frame.

Ferris State will wrap up its three-game league homestead on Tuesday (Feb. 16) versus Lake Superior State with tipoff set for 6 p.m. (ET) inside Wink Arena.
