DETROIT -- The 2012 Wayne State University football campaign came to a close Saturday afternoon at Adams Field as the Warriors dropped a 35-13 decision to visiting Michigan Tech.  The Warriors, decimated by injuries on defense, lost their final three games to end the year at 5-5.  The Huskies finished at 7-3.

Wayne State's strength of schedule in 2012 will be in the top 10 nationally out of 148 schools eligible for post-season play.

MTU scored touchdowns on three of its first four possessions with all three scoring drives lasting at least 11 plays.  The Huskies converted four third down plays in their opening drive with the four being an 18-yard scoring toss from Tyler Scarlett to Pat Carroll.

After WSU turned the ball over on downs at the MTU 30, the Warrior defense stepped up and forced a three-and-out.  Unfortunately Wayne State was only able to garner one first down on the ensuing drive and had to punt.

Michigan Tech converted one third down but after Cole Welch was stopped on a third-and-goal from the one, he scored on the next play to make it 14-0.

WSU drove 52 yards in 13 plays with junior Stefan Terleckyj (Warren, Mich./Mott) connecting on a 36-yard field goal attempt.  Wayne State had four first downs on the series - two runs by sophomore Desmond Martin (Redford, Mich./Thurston) and two pass completions by freshman Carl Roscoe (Kentwood, Mich. / Kelloggsville), including a 10-yard hook-up with senior Steve Conway (Roseville, Mich. / St. Clair Shores Lakeview) on a third-and-nine; the other was a 15-yard completion to sophomore Michael Johnson (Detroit, Mich. / Clintondale) on a third-and-five.

The Huskies answered with a 14-play drive going 72 yards with Scarlett completing a seven-yard scoring pass to Ethan Shaver just 40 seconds before halftime.

Senior quarterback Mickey Mohner (Painesville, Ohio/Harvey) drove the Warriors 33 yards before Terleckyj's 56-yard field goal attempt was just short.

The first two drives of the second half ended in punts before Michigan Tech went 80 yards in five plays with Cedrick Barber scoring on a two-yard scamper following a 62-yard run by Charlie Leffingwell.

After an exchange on punts, Roscoe drove the Warriors 94 yards in 16 plays converting one fourth down play and a trio of third down conversions.  WSU's lone touchdown came on a three-yard pass from Roscoe to Johnson.  It was Roscoe's first collegiate touchdown pass and Johnson's first career score after spending the last two years at Western Michigan.

Terleckyj's onside kick bounced right to Steve Conway at the Michigan Tech 49.  After earning one first down, a fourth down shotgun snapped was mishandled giving the ball back to the Huskies.

Following an MTU punt that was downed at the two, the Warriors went 91 yards in 14 plays with the aid of two 15-yard penalties on the Huskies.  Terleckyj connected on a 25-yard field goal to equal the Wayne State record for career field goals held by David Chudzinski at 33.

Michigan Tech recovered the onside kickoff and went 38 yards in three plays to complete the scoring.

The Huskies held a 198-130 advantage in rushing yards with Leffingwell garnering a game-high 97 yards.  Martin led WSU with 60 yards, while junior Jessie Johnson (Monroe, Mich.) contributed 52 yards on 10 carries.

Scarlett completed 16-of-22 for 169 yards and three scores with no interceptions.  Shaver also completed a flea-flicker pass for 28 yards.

Mohner was 7-of-19 for 70 yards, while Roscoe passed for 102 yards on 11-of-21.  Sean Guinane (St. Joseph, Mich.) was 3-of-7 for 45 yards in the fourth quarter.

Conway led Wayne State in receptions (6) and receiving yards (57).

Junior safety Antwon Robinson () tied for game-high tackle honors with 14 (10-4) with MTU's Justin Armstrong (8-6).

It was the final collegiate game for 13 Wayne State seniors:  David Burnley (Bloomfield Hills, Mich. / Lahser), Pat Cecile (Westland, Mich. / Livonia Franklin), Conway, Aaron Cornett (South Lyon, Mich.), Curtis Ferguson (Holt, Mich.), Serxho Guraleci (Sterling Heights, Mich. / Utica Stevenson), Kaunda Hancock (Detroit, Mich. / Brother Rice), Mike Hinkle (Livonia, Mich. / Dearborn Divine Child), Zach Houghton (Haslett, Mich.), Mazen Jaddou (Bloomfield Hills, Mich. / Brother Rice), Sean McCarthy (Toledo, Ohio / St. Francis de Sales), Mohner, and Nick Thomas (Akron, Ohio/St. Vincent-St. Mary).

This group recorded the second-most wins in school history (behind last year's class).
