Ferris State Runs Past Davenport In 49-point Home Court Victory

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's basketball squad dominated from start to finish, posting a 103-54 romp over visiting Davenport on Sunday (Dec. 4) afternoon inside FSU's Jim Wink Arena in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play.

FSU claimed its sixth consecutive win this year as five players reached double-digits in the decisive triumph. The Bulldogs jumped out to a quick lead and led 57-22 at halftime in the game.

Ferris State shot 58% from the floor and made 12-of-21 (57.1%) three's while going 21-of-28 (75%) at the free throw stripe. In addition, the Bulldogs owned a 43-26 rebounding edge and forced 21 turnovers.

Defensively, Ferris State also limited the Panthers to only 34% shooting with DU going five-of-20 (25%) beyond the three-point arc. The Panthers converted 13-of-23 (56.5%) free throws.

FSU was led by Deng Reng, who tallied 23 points on six-of-seven shooting in the victory. He was a perfect eight-of-eight from the free throw line and went three-of-three from long range while adding eight rebounds and five assists.

Along with Reng, the Bulldogs received 18 points from Solomon Oraegbu with Ethan Erickson notching 14 points on four-of-seven shooting from the outside. Vejas Grazulis also connected on a pair of three's and tallied 12 points while Amari Lee scored 11 points and dished out nine assists.

Ferris State got contributions up and down the lineup as Brandon Claerbaut came off the bench to score nine points and his brother Nate Claerbaut tallied seven points, including a big dunk late in the game. Mykel Bingham led FSU with 10 rebounds on the glass.

Davenport was paced by Marcedus Leech Jr. with 17 points and Jakub Dombeck totaled 13 points in the loss.

FSU dominated all the statistical numbers, including holding a 17-4 edge in second chance scoring, a 30-15 margin in points off turnovers and a 40-22 advantage inside the paint along with a 32-12 margin on the break.

With the win, the Bulldogs improved to 6-2 overall and have now won their last six outings in a row, including both Thursday night's 30-point win over rival Grand Valley State in the league opener followed by Sunday's 49-point triumph over DU.

Ferris State heads to Michigan's Upper Peninsula next weekend for a pair of league road games. FSU first visits Northern Michigan on Friday (Dec. 9) for a 5:30 p.m. (ET) game in Marquette before visiting Michigan Tech on Sunday (Dec. 11) for a 3 p.m. (ET) tip in Houghton.
