DETROIT -- The Wayne State University women's tennis team (4-0 overall, 4-0 GLIAC) notched a 6-1 victory over Michigan Tech (2-1 overall, 2-1 GLIAC) at home on Sunday.
DOUBLES RESULTS
Sophomore
Laura Cazacu (London, England) and junior
Linda Liong (Tanjung Kidurong, Malaysia) tallied a 6-1 win at the first flight vs. Ivona Gorgioski and Jessica Brown.
Junior
Khadija Da-Silva (Burlington, Ont.) and freshman
Sabrina Laynes (Saginaw, Mich. / Heritage) were next off the courts after topping Neva Manas and Samantha Johnson, 7-5, at No. 3 doubles.
At No. 2 doubles, juniors
Tanja Skalda (Prien Am Chiemsee, Germany) and
Teodora Radu (Ramnicu Valcea, Romania) fell 7-5 to Dominika Bobik and Lauren Opalewski.
SINGLES RESULTS
Cazacu nearly blanked Gorgioski at No. 1 singles (6-1, 6-0).
Radu was next to finish, winning her No. 5 singles match vs. Opalewski (6-4, 7-5).
Da-Silva fell to Bobik in a close No. 3 singles match (6-5, 7-6).
At No. 2 singles, Liong tallied a third-set win versus Brown (6-7, 6-1, 6-4).
Skalda won her No. 4 singles match in a third set against Manas (4-6, 6-2, 6-2).
At No. 6 singles, Laynes edged Mirna Golac (6-4, 6-0).
