BIG RAPIDS -- The SVSU Women's Tennis team fell in its 2019 season opener on Saturday at Ferris State by a score of 5-2. 

The Cardinals got victories from Joanne Gao at #2 singles and Nicole Johnson from the #6 singles slot for SVSU's lone two points of the contest. Doubles action saw FSU get the single point after winning 6-3 at #1 and #2 and 6-0 in the #3 doubles section.

Gao had a straight sets victory, claiming her match by scores of 6-3, 6-0. Johnson pulled out a tight first set 7-6 before winning the second by a 6-2 score.

Maddie Miller (#1) and Gyselle Daza Gutierrez (#4) each narrowly fell in their respective matches that went three sets. Miller dropped hers 3-6, 6-3, 3-6 while Gutierrez  ended up on the wrong side of a 1-6, 7-5, 1-6 score.
