Preview: Laker Men's Basketball Set for First GLIAC Road Trip of the Season Against UP Rivals

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State men's basketball program (3-4, 2-0 GLIAC) is set to face both of their Upper Peninsula rivals on the road over the weekend when they take on the Michigan Tech Huskies and the Northern Michigan Wildcats on Friday, Dec. 9 and Sunday, Dec. 11, respectively.

The Huskies currently hold a record of 2-7 and are currently on a 6-game losing streak with their most recent losses coming at the hands of conference foes Wisconsin-Parkside and Purdue Northwest on the road. Michigan Tech operates a balanced offense with three players averaging double-digit scoring, but they will be looking to improve their defense that allows nearly ten more points than the Huskies score per contest, and the Lakers will be looking to take advantage of second chance opportunities as the Huskies average the fewest rebounds per game in the GLIAC (28.3) while LSSU averages the second most per contest (36.1) behind only Ferris State (41.5).

The Wildcats are currently holding a record of 6-3. Northern Michigan is led by GLIAC Preseason Player of the Year, Max Bjorklund, who is currently averaging a league-leading 22.2 points per game. Bjorklund has already been named the conference player of the week twice this season, and he has scored at least 20 points in six of his first nine games. He has also eclipsed 30 points on three occasions, highlighted by a 38-point, season-opening performance against McKendree. The Wildcats will host the Ferris State Bulldogs prior to their matchup against the Lakers.
