Ferris State Earns Big Road Win At Northern Michigan In Weekend Finale

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's basketball squad earned a big road win on Sunday (Jan. 24) as the Bulldogs held on down the stretch to beat the Northern Michigan Wildcats 66-64 in Marquette.

Ferris State finished with a weekend split inside NMU's Physical Education Building gym as the Bulldogs jumped out to a 16-12 lead in the initial quarter.

FSU increased its advantage to 38-26 at halftime and pushed the margin to 13 points at the end of three periods before NMU cut the margin down in the final quarter. The Wildcats outscored FSU 25-14 in the fourth and trimmed the margin to one point with less than two minutes to play, but Ferris State converted three free throws in the final five seconds to preserve the triumph.

Junior forward Zoe Anderson of Rockford shot six-of-eight from the floor and made four-of-five three's in scoring a career-high 17 points in the Bulldog victory. Freshman Kadyn Blanchard also had another strong performance with 17 points while freshman forward Ariel Jenkins totaled 10 points off the bench and sophomore guard Mallory McCartney scored nine points.

The Bulldogs went seven-of-22 (31.8%) from long range and made 37.9% of their field goals overall, but also forced 22 Northern Michigan turnovers and out rebounded the Wildcats 28-27 in the victory.

Overall, Northern Michigan shot 44% from the field and seven-of-14 (50%) from the three-point stripe while going 13-of-18 (72.2%) at the line in comparison to FSU's nine-of-12 (75%) showing at the charity stripe.

The Wildcats were led by Makaylee Kuhn's team-high 16 points with Emily Mueller adding 13 points. However, those were the only two Northern Michigan players to scored in double-digits.

Jenkins paced FSU on the glass with a team-high eight rebounds while McCartney added five steals. Blanchard dished out five assists for the Bulldogs.

Ferris State wraps up a three-game road stretch as the Bulldogs venture back to Michigan's Upper Peninsula on Tuesday (Jan. 26) to face Lake Superior State with tipoff set for 6 p.m. (ET) at Bud Cooper Gymnasium in Sault Ste. Marie.
