Wildcats rally to top Cardinals in five sets

MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University volleyball team jumped out to an early lead on the road against Northern Michigan University Friday in Marquette, Mich.

The Wildcats rallied from two one-set deficits and topped the Cardinals in five sets. The set scores were 18-25, 25-20, 13-25, 25-19, 15-11. The loss drops SVSU to 9-2 overall and 1-2 in the GLIAC.

The Cardinals were led on offense with 12 kills from Rylee Zimmer, while Madison Thompson added 11 kills. Haley Clum finished with 10 kills in the loss.

Peyton Gerstacker recorded 39 kills, nine digs, and three total blocks, while Kelsey Vittitow finished with a team-high 20 digs.

The Cardinals remain in the Upper Peninsula to take on Michigan Tech at 4 pm Saturday in Houghton, Mich.
