Ferris State Sweeps Purdue Northwest To Open Homecoming Weekend

Big Rapids, Mich. - The nationally #16-ranked Ferris State University women's volleyball team swept the Purdue Northwest Pride 3-0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-10) on Friday (Sept. 27) in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play inside the Ewigleben Sports Arena.

For the Bulldogs, senior outside hitter Allyson Cappel led all hitters with 10 kills and a pair of service aces. Freshman middle hitter Kira Merkle had six kills while senior outside hitter Courtney Brewer and junior outside hitter Katie O'Connell added five apiece.

Defensively, Ferris State junior libero Nina Gorgijevska had a match-high 18 digs. Sophomore middle hitter Samantha Hermann had four total blocks. 

The Bulldogs hit for a .341 attack percentage and held the Pride to a -0.54 attack percentage on the day. Ferris State had a .316 percentage in the first, .393 in the second and .320 in the third set. Purdue Northwest hit for an .026 attack percentage in the opening set, but failed to hit better than .000 in the final two sets with 14 attack errors in the third set. Ferris State had no errors in the third set, and just four in the first and second set.

Ferris State had 60 digs to Purdue Northwest's 41, and 39 kills to PNW's 19.

For Purdue Northwest, Annie Pulizos had seven kills to lead the Pride. Danielle Fowler had 17 digs for the day for PNW.

Ferris State returns to action against the Wisconsin Parkside Rangers on Saturday (Sept. 28) at Ewigleben Arena for a 12:30 p.m. (ET) first serve in GLIAC play.
