Women's Tennis Extends Winning Streak With 7-0 Win

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University women's tennis squad (15-0 overall) won its 15th consecutive match of the school year by blanking the University of Northwestern Ohio (3-6 overall) 7-0 on Friday at the Doris J. and Donald L. Duchene, Sr. Athletic Facility on the WSU campus.

DOUBLES RESULTS

The No. 3 doubles tandem of Linda Liong (Sarawak, Malaysia) and sophomore Carla Jewell (Hobart, Ind.) combined for a 6-1 win to start the match.

Junior Irena van Meer (Amsterdam, Netherlands) and freshman Sabrina Laynes (Saginaw, Mich. / Heritage) teamed for a 6-2 triumph at second doubles to secure the doubles point.

Sophomore Laura Cazacu (London, England) and Teodora Radu (Râmnicu Vâlcea, Romania) parterned for a 6-3 victory at No. 1 doubles.

SINGLES RESULTS

Cazacu began the singles portion of the match with a 6-1, 6-1 win at first singles.

Liong posted a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 2 singles, while Radu was a 6-2, 6-0 winner at third singles.

Laynes notched a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles, with Jewell winning all 12 games (6-0, 6-0) in her fifth singles match.

Junior Stephanie Stamate (Windsor, Ont.) closed out the match wtih a 6-4, 6-0 victory at No. 6 singles.

UP NEXT

Wayne State will be idle until facing Mercyhurst in the opening match of the spring break trip on March 5th in Florida.
