HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University men's basketball team took on Davenport University in the semifinals of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Postseason Tournament hosted by Michigan Tech Saturday in Houghton, Mich.

The No. 4 seed Cardinals jumped out to a 16-point lead in the first half, but the No. 8 seed Panthers took over after the break, outscoring SVSU 57-30 in the final 20 minutes, as Davenport took its third win the season in the series 98-80.

The loss ends the season for SVSU with a record of 19-11.

How it Happened:

• The Cardinals started fast and with a Delano Smith 4-point play just over 6 minutes into the game, SVSU held a 22-8 lead.
• Darnell Hoskins Jr., who scored 24 points in the first half, hit three free throws with six minutes to play in the first half to extend the Cardinal lead to 40-25.
• Davenport cut the deficit to as few as four points in the final minutes of the first half, but SVSU took a 50-41 lead in the half after a late 3-pointer from Hoskins Jr.
• The lead evaporated quickly in the second half, as Davenport came out of the locker room on an 11-2 run to tie the game at 52-52.
• The teams traded the lead for the next several minutes, but Jarrin Randle got hot from deep and helped the Panthers pull away. Randle's second straight 3-pointer put Davenport up 75-64 with 8 minutes to go.
• SVSU pulled back within six points on two occasions, but the Panthers answered every time shooting 57.6 percent from the field in the second half.

• Hoskins Jr. led the Cardinals with 28 points on 8-of-15 shooting, scoring 24 points in the first half.
• Smith added 20 points and nine rebounds.
• Tyler Witz finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
• The game was the finale as a Cardinal for seniors Hoskins Jr., Smith, Witz, and James Toohey.
• SVSU shot 28-of-68 from the field, 7-of-23 from deep, and 17-of-24 from the line. Davenport narrowly won the rebounding battle 38-37.
• The Panthers were led by Luke Maranka with 28 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double. Davenport moves on the play Northern Michigan University for the GLIAC Tournament title on Sunday.
