Bulldogs Lock Down Lakers In Strong Defensive Performance

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's basketball team defeated the Lake Superior State Lakers 54-47 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play on Tuesday (Feb. 16) inside Jim Wink Arena.

Ferris State freshman Kadyn Blanchard registered a double-double with 16 points to lead the Bulldogs along with 11 boards.

Lake Superior State's Mattison Rayman had a strong individual effort with 23 points and 16 rebounds for for the Lakers, but the Bulldogs managed to hold the rest of the Lakers to a combined 24 points for the evening and a 20.9 percent shooting clip.

The Bulldogs took a four-point lead to the locker room at 30-26 as junior forward Zoe Anderson had 10 points to pace the Bulldogs in the first half.

Ferris State sophomore guard Mallory McCartney chipped in 10 points while freshman forward Ariel Jenkins added seven points off the bench. 

From deep, Blanchard led the Bulldogs, hitting four triples on nine tries.

The Bulldogs dominated the glass 52-37 overall. McCartney had a double-double with 12 rebounds to go with her 10 points. Ferris State junior forward Ellie Dykstra had seven rebounds in the contest.

Further, Ferris State had 16 offensive rebounds to Lake Superior State's five. Ferris State also had nine rebounds off the bench to go with five team rebounds. 

The Bulldogs will travel to Indiana this weekend to take on the Purdue Northwest Pride in league play. The game on Friday (Feb. 19) gets underway at 7 p.m. (ET) with Saturday's (Feb. 20) finale set for 4 p.m. (ET).
