ASHLAND, Ohio -- The Wayne State University women's tennis team (1-0 overall, 1-0 GLIAC) defeated Ashland (0-1 overall, 0-1 GLIAC), 8-1, in the season opener on Saturday morning at the Deborah Liebert Karl Tennis Complex.
DOUBLES RESULTS
- Seniors
Lauren Hughes (Detroit, Mich. / Southfield) and
Ashley Walker (Canton, Mich. / Salem) topped Elizabeth Kidd and Allison Brooks, 8-1, at the third doubles flight, while junior
Liz Ghellere (Ararangua, Brazil) and sophomore
Astrid Ciellza (Tecumseh, Ont.) bested Meghann Fitzpatrick and Kaitlin Snider, 8-1, at No. 2 doubles.
- Sophomores
Liv Peisachovitz (Vaughan, Ont.) and
Dasha Kuznetsova (Moscow, Russia) beat Natalie Keron and Brianna Brdicka, 8-2, at the first doubles position.
SINGLES RESULTS
- Hughes blanked Kidd, 6-0, 6-0, in two sets at the fifth singles flight, while Ciellza posted a victory against Snider (6-0, 6-1) at No. 4 singles.
- Walker defeated Brooks, 6-0, 6-4, at the sixth singles position, and Kuznetsova topped Keron in two sets (6-3, 6-1) at the third singles flight.
- Ghellere earned the Warriors final point with a win over Brdicka (6-2, 6-4) at No. 2 singles, while Peisachovitz fell, 6-1, 6-1, to Fitzpatrick at the first singles position.
