Ferris State Women's Tennis Drops Close Encounter At NCAA D1 Valparaiso

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's tennis team battled NCAA Division I Valparaiso in strong fashion on Sunday (Feb. 7) as the Bulldogs dropped a 5-2 decision to the Crusaders in Valparaiso, Ind.

The Bulldogs claimed the doubles point by taking the second and third flights, but Valpo responded with wins in five of the six singles flights to garner the triumph.

Ferris State had a pair of singles matches reach a third set with the score standing at 3-2 in the contest, both of which could have turned the final score.

"It was a good match and we just need to work on closing it out," said FSU head coach Mark Doren. "After opening the season with a pair of matches against Division I schools, we've learned a lot about where we are and where we can go. There's great things ahead for the Bulldogs."

The Bulldogs' number two doubles tandem of Morgan Waller and Sam Stephenson were 6-3 winners while the third flight team of Sophie Davettila and Patricia Martin Gomez were 6-2 winners.

In singles play, the Bulldogs also got a straight-set win from Agata Klak at the fourth spot in the lineup by a 7-5, 6-2 count.

The Bulldogs are slated to play their home opener on Friday, Feb. 12, with a regional non-conference tilt against the Tiffin Dragons. Match time is set for 4:30 p.m. (ET) at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center.
