DETROIT -- The Wayne State University women's tennis team (4-2 overall, 3-2 GLIAC) fell short to Northwood University (6-0 overall, 6-0 GLIAC) at home on Tuesday, 4-3.
In all five previous matches for the Timberwolves, they walked away with a 7-0 win. Â Their match against the Warriors was the first in which they didn't sweep all of their opponents.
DOUBLES RECAP
First off the court was three doubles. Â Sophomore
Brianna Douglas (Dayton, Ohio / Chaminade Julienne) and senior
Astrid Ciellza (Tecumseh, Ont.) lost to Elizaveta Velichko and Vasilisa Mikhaylova (6-2).
Sophomore
Linda Liong (Tanjung Kidurong, Malaysia) and freshman
Laura Cazacu (London, England) were the only winning doubles flight at two. Â They defeated opponents Kate Berestovenko and Iryna Trystan (6-3).
Senior
Dasha Kuznetsova (Moscow, Russia) and redshirt sophomore
Khadija Da-Silva (Burlington, Ont.) fell 6-3 against Timberwolves Tetyana Pavych and Carol Arnez-Mercado.
SINGLES RECAP
Cazacu finished strong at four singles, defeating opponent Velichko (6-1, 6-2).
Da-Silva and Berestovenko each owned a set in their three singles match, however, Da-Silva had to retire due to injury (NU 0-6, 6-4).
Sophomore
Tanja Skalda (Prien Am Chiemsee, Germany) put up a fight at five singles against Iryna Trystan, but fell short (6-3, 6-1).
At one singles, Kuznetsova took the next win for the Warriors in a third set against Pavych (6-4, 2-6, 6-4).
Freshman
Carla Jewell (Hobart, Ind.) fought hard against Timberwolf Mikhaylova at six singles. Â After being down 5-1 in her second set, Jewell battled back and finished with a well-earned victory (6-2, 7-5).
Liong was last off the court after yet another close match. Â Winning the first set and losing the second, Liong fell to Arnez-Mercado in a third set (6-7(5-7), 6-1, 6-1).

The Warriors are traveling to Big Rapids, Mich. on Oct. 13 to play Ferris State.
