Women's Tennis Falls to Oakland University in Final Nonconference Match of the Season

ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Lake Superior State University women's tennis team fell by a final score of 7-0 to the Oakland University Golden Grizzlies in a nonconference match on Friday, March 19 in Rochester, Mich. 

In doubles play, the Lakers top pair of Milena Baigorria and Nadege Koua lost their match by a 6-4 score and the team's second pairing of Muskaan Ranjan and Maddie Whip fell by a 6-3 score. Claudia Sole and Keegan Malpass, the Lakers No. 3 doubles pair, won by a score of 6-2 but the Golden Grizzlies secured the doubles point. 

In singles play, freshman Whip played in the No. 1 spot for the Lakers but fell in two sets by scores of 6-1 both times. Baigorria played in the No. 2 matchup for the Lakers and dropped the match by scores of 6-1 and 6-0. Ranjan, the No. 3 player for the Lakers, lost by scores of 6-1 and 6-4. In the final three matches, Oakland clinched the final three points winning each match in two sets. Sole fell by scores of 6-2 and 6-0 in the No. 4 match, Julia Fraile Raton dropped the match by consecutive scores of 6-2 in the No. 5 match and No. 6 played Keegan Malpass fell by scores of 6-1 and 6-4. 

What's Next

The Lakers will begin conference play this week as the team is set to take on the Grand Valley State Lakers on Friday, March 25 at 9:30 a.m. and the Ferris State Bulldogs on Saturday, March 26 at 10:00 a.m. Both Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) matches will be played on the road.
