Baseball collects 15 hits in 14-8 regional victory at Hillsdale

HILLSDALE -- The Cardinal Baseball team hit the road once again on Tuesday (Mar. 26) playing at regional opponent Hillsdale College. In a high-scoring affair, Saginaw Valley piled-up 15 hits en route to a 14-8 victory over the Chargers. 

The victory is the third straight for SVSU, moving them to 9-9 overall on the year. The Chargers fall to 7-14 overall. 

Trailing 4-2 after two complete innings, the Cards went for nine runs in the 3rd and single runs in the 4th and 5th innings to take the lead with the score 13-4. 

Hillsdale added two in the home half of the 5th and single runs in the 8th and 9th, but a single run for the Cardinals in the top of the 7th put the game at its 14-8 final score. 

Joshua Riggs had a standout day at the dish for SV, going 4-for-4 with a home run, pair of doubles and three RBI. He scored twice in the game. Derrek Clyde was 3-for-5 with a double and three RBI with a run scored as well. Jordan Swiss added two hits, including a triple, three runs scored and a pair of RBI. Austin Koin collected a pair of hits, scored twice, had an RBI and walked once. 

Chase Gearing (1-1) picked-up the victory in relief of starter Nolan Knauf. Gearing tossed 3.0 innings while allowing one run on two hits. He struck-out four batters. Amani Godfrey (1 K), Eric Fritz and Alex Millhisler (2 K) combined to go the rest of the way, allowing a single run-apiece in securing the victory.

The Cardinals open at home this upcoming weekend, hosting Grand Valley in a four-game series. The series begins with a single, nine-inning game on Friday (Mar. 29) at the SVSU Baseball Complex.
