Men's Tennis Drops Match Against Rollins

Cedric Drenth, Ben Lakeman and Niklas Karcz earned singles wins for the Warriors.

WINTER PARK, Fla. -- A day after defeating Case Western Reserve, the No. 21-ranked Wayne State University men's tennis team (9-3 overall) was defeated by No. 24 Rollins (6-3 overall), 4-3, Friday evening. 

SINGLES
The Warriors collected all of their points in singles, starting with Niklas Karcz (Bottrop, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany) at No. 3 singles.  He defeated his opponent 6-2, 6-1. 

Cedric Drenth (Sulzbach, Germany) played well at No. 5 singles, earning a 6-4, 6-1 victory. 

At No. 4 singles, Ben Lakeman (Penzance Cornwall, England) collected a 6-4, 6-3 win. 

Dom Spicer (London, England) battled at No. 1 singles, but he eventually fell, 5-7, 3-6.  

Playing at No. 2 singles, Daniel Grey (Wiesbaden, Germany) grinded out a three-set match, but he was upended, 5-7, 6-1, 1-6. 

Luke Laws (Sunderland, England) also played a three-set match, but he ended up losing, 6-1, 4-6, 3-6.  

DOUBLES
Grey and Drenth recorded the only doubles win for the Green and Gold, as the duo posted a 6-3 victory. 

Playing at No. 1 doubles, Spicer and Laws were defeated, 2-6. 

Finally, at No. 3 doubles, Karcz and Lakeman ended up losing, 6-7.

"We fell a little short today.  Disappointing, but the team showed good fight, and I think we're turning in the right direction.  Getting better every day," coach Bryan Morrow said.
