BACK HOME AT SHERMAN
After putting on 1,800 miles in travel the last two weeks with road games at Ferris State and Saginaw Valley State, the Huskies return home this Saturday (Nov. 3). Michigan Tech is 3-1 at home this season, averaging 39.2 points per game and allowing 24.2 on the Sherman Field turf. Fans in Houghton have seen lots of offense, with the teams combining for more than 800 yards per game in the four home games.
SCARLETT HOLDS SEASON TOUCHDOWN RECORD
Tyler Scarlett threw a touchdown pass to Alex Elsenheimer last Saturday (Oct. 27) at Saginaw Valley State. The sophomore now has 21 touchdown throws on the year, breaking Dan Mettlach's 2004 record of 20. Scarlett has had one of the best seasons in school history. In addition to his TDs, he has thrown just three interceptions and is on pace to break his own school record for passing yards in a season. The current record is 2,406. Scarlett has 2,180 (272.5 average) with two games to go. He ranks third in the GLIAC in both passing average and pass efficiency rating (154.0).
ELSENHEIMER STEPS UP
Senior Alex Elsenheimer recorded his first two touchdown receptions at Ferris State two weeks ago (Oct. 20) and added another at SVSU last week. The 5-9 wideout hauled in a fourth quarter pass from Tyler Scarlett for his third catch of the day. Elsenheimer, who entered this season with just one career catch, has 31 receptions on the year for 355 yards including seven for 89 yards over the last two weeks.
WELCH TALLIES FIRST CAREER TWO-TD GAME
Fullback Cole Welch has been the go-to player to carry the ball in short-yardage situations for the last two years. He found himself in that position three times last week at Saginaw Valley State and made the most of it. The results of the three plays: touchdown, touchdown, first down. Welch has carried the ball 19 times this season for 44 yards. Of those 19 carries, 16 have resulted in either a first down or touchdown (84 percent). One of his three non-conversion runs was a five-yard pickup on second-and-10 last week at SVSU.
LACHAPELLE POSTS 10-CATCH DAY
Bryan LaChapelle shattered his personal record for receptions with 10 at Saginaw Valley State. The senior tight end surpassed his career high of six catches in a game by grabbing seven in the first half alone. He added three more in the second half to finish with 10 catches for 86 yards. LaChapelle has 42 receptions for 526 yards and three touchdowns on the season.
SERIES VS. HILLSDALE
Hillsdale owns a 17-6 lead in the all-time series with Michigan Tech which began in 1980. The Chargers have won three straight over the Huskies including a 13-7 decision in Houghton a year ago (Oct. 15). Each of the last four games between the teams has been decided by a touchdown or less. Tech's last win in the series was a 39-36 victory at Sherman Field in 2008.
ROCK SOLID ARMSTRONG
Senior Justin Armstrong continues to lead the team in tackles with 60 this year. The linebacker from Las Vegas, Nev., has tallied 47 of those in the last five weeks for an average of 9.4. Armstrong had nine tackles at Saginaw Valley State last Saturday. Tech's second-leading tackler is also a linebacker—sophomore Dan Perrault with 52.
COACH KEARLY
Michigan Tech head coach Tom Kearly is in his seventh season as head coach and 13th overall with the Huskies program. The skipper owns a 42-29 record (.592 winning percentage) and has coached Tech to two of the eight eight-win seasons in school history. Kearly, a Hancock native and 1979 Winona State graduate, coached at Central Michigan for 19 seasons before returning to the Copper Country in 2000. He was the GLIAC Coach of the Year in 2010.
ALL-TIME RECORD
Michigan Tech has an all-time football record of 345-334-17 (.508 winning percentage) in 90 seasons of intercollegiate football. The Huskies are 62-38 over the last 10 seasons (.620 winning percentage).

Michigan Tech's team captains for the 2012 season are senior linebacker Justin Armstrong, senior defensive tackle Jake Clark, senior tight end Bryan LaChapelle and senior offensive lineman Chris Mullen.
HUSKY BITES
Michigan Tech has four non-offensive touchdowns this season with a punt return TD, a fumble return TD, a kickoff return TD and a punt block return TD. The Huskies had just two non-offensive scores all of last season … Tech has scored the first points of the game seven times in eight contests this season and are 5-2 in those games.
