Bulldogs Drop Home Contest To Hillsdale

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's tennis team fell 6-1 to the Hillsdale College Chargers in a home non-conference match at the Ferris State Racquet Center on Saturday (Feb. 29).

Ferris State freshman from Germany Yannic Alexander Mader picked up the lone Bulldog point in the match, outdueling Hillsdale's Charlie Adams 3-6, 6-1, 6-1 for the win.

The Bulldogs second doubles team of Mader Queenstown, New Zealand native and sophomore Josh McDermott and also held a 5-4 lead over Hillsdale's two-doubles team of Brian Hackman and Michael Szabo but it went unfinished as the one-doubles team of Adams and Ivanhoe Lissanevitch dispatched Ferris State senior Cedric Rupa and junior Mathis Guerre 6-4, while the Chargers' three-doubles unit of Tyler Conrad and Julien Clouette defeated Bulldog freshmen Andrew Swirczek and Alec Olivier 6-2.

The Chargers won close sets at five singles (Conrad DEF. Rupe 6-4, 2-6, 10-5) and six singles (Clouette DEF. Swirczek 3-6, 6-2, 10-5) as the Bulldogs sent five of the six singles matches into a third set, but conceded four of them.

Ferris State is off until Monday (March 9) when they make the trip to Winter Park, Florida to take on the Lynn Fighting Knights at 1:00 pm ET.
