Bulldog Tennis Teams Fall To Nationally Top-10 Ranked Saint Leo Squads

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's tennis teams took on a pair of top-10 ranked squads on Wednesday (March 9) evening as both Bulldog squads fell to Saint Leo (Fla.) on the road in non-league play.

The host Lions topped FSU by identical 6-1 scores at the Saint Leo Tennis Center. The Lions entered the match ranked eighth nationally on the women's side and ninth in the men's tennis national rankings.

Saint Leo, which is guided by Ferris State alum and former Bulldog head coach Chad Berryhill, took the opening point of the match in both contests by winning the doubles round. FSU dropped the the three women's flights, but did get a win from the top tandem of Mathis Guerre and Jan Koupil at men's one doubles.

Overall, in the men's match, Saint Leo captured five of the six singles positions with FSU's lone win coming in three-sets from Alessandro Santangelo at six singles. The second, third and fourth flights all went to three frames as well.

In the women's match, Ferris State also produced a win at six singles with Kennedy Dumas pulling out a 6-3, 4-6, 10-7 triumph.

The Ferris State women's team dropped to 4-3 overall with the setback while the Bulldog men suffered their first loss the campaign and are now 7-1 overall.

Both Bulldog teams continue action on their annual spring break trip by taking on Texas-Tyler on Thursday (March 10) at the USTA National Tennis Center in Orlando. Both contests get underway at 6:30 p.m. (ET).
