Warriors Defeat Greyhounds, 3-2

WSU extends winning streak to four games

AUBURNDALE, Fla. - The Wayne State University baseball team (7-2) erased a two-run deficit and extended its winning streak to four games in a 3-2 result against the University of Indianapolis (3-5) on Tuesday afternoon at Lake Myrtle Park.

Andrew Ciennik (Waterford, Mich./Mott) went 3-for-4 including a key two-out RBI double in the seventh inning which tied the score.  Chris Gebara (Troy, Mich.) drove in the go-ahead run in the eighth on his second hit of the game.

Ethan Vasiliauskas (South Rockwood, Mich./Carleton Airport), who came on in relief of Greg Spiess (Saline, Mich.) in the sixth inning, pitched 2.2 scoreless innings and picked up his second victory of the season.  Billy Hurley (Mississauga, Ont./St. Aloysius Gonzaga) closed it out with a scoreless ninth for his fourth save in as many chances.

Spiess and JaVaun West were locked in a pitchers' duel as the game was scoreless through five.  Scott Mourey's two-run single in the sixth gave UIndy the lead, but back-to-back strikeouts by Spiess to end the inning prevented further damage and left two Greyhounds stranded.

A grounder by Kyle Vesey (Brighton, Mich.) brought home Alex Trojan (Fenton, Mich./Hartland) in the bottom of the inning to cut the deficit in half.

Chris Saroff, who surrendered the RBI single to Gebara in the eighth which plated Vesey, took the loss (0-1).

Wayne State will face Winona State in a doubleheader Wednesday starting at 11:00.

NOTES
Hurley is already halfway to his saves total from last year (8) … he and Vasiliauskas have combined to pitch 11.2 scoreless innings this season … Andrew Ciennik is 8-for-18 with three RBI in the six Florida games.
