DETROIT -- The Wayne State University women's tennis squad (3-0 overall, 3-0 GLIAC) tallied a 6-1 win against Lake Superior State (0-2 overall, 0-2 GLIAC) in its first home match of the season on Saturday.
DOUBLES RESULTS
JuniorsÂ
Khadija Da-Silva (Burlington, Ont.) and
Irena van Meer (Amsterdam, Netherlands) were first off the courts after blanking Riley Gilman and Madelin Harrod, 6-0, at No. 3 doubles.
At the first flight, sophomore
Laura Cazacu (London, England) and junior
Linda Liong (Tanjung Kidurong, Malaysia) secured the Green and Gold doubles point against Nadedge Koua and Muskaan Ranjan, 6-3.
JuniorsÂ
Teodora Radu (Ramnicu Valcea, Romania) and
Tanja Skalda (Prien Am Chiemsee, Germany) edged AlexiAnn Drouin and Keegan Malpass, 7-5, in a close No. 2 doubles match.
SINGLES RESULTS
Skalda was first to finish after notching a No. 4 singles victory over Malpass (6-2, 6-0).
Cazacu gained momentum after a close first set, winning her No. 1 singles match versus Drouin (6-4, 6-1).
Liong fell to Koua at No. 2 singles (6-3, 6-4).
Da-Silva secured the WSU win after tallying a victory against Ranjan at No. 3 singles (6-1, 6-4).
Sophomore
Carla Jewell (Hobart, Ind.) shut out Gilman in the second set, winning her No. 5 singles match (6-2, 6-0).
At No. 6 singles, van Meer edged Harrod (6-1, 6-2) in her first singles match of the season.
