Ferris State Drops Final Regular-Season Game At LSSU; Will Be #4 Seed For GLIAC Tourney

Big Rapids, Mich. - A strong home court performance led Lake Superior State past the Ferris State University men's basketball squad by a 86-66 count in the final Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) regular-season game on Thursday (Feb. 28) night at Bud Cooper Gymnasium in Sault Ste. Marie.

With the setback, FSU finished second overall in the North Division and will be the number four seed for the GLIAC Tournament and host quarterfinal-round action against fifth-seeded Northern Michigan on Tuesday, March 5, with tipoff set for 7 p.m. (ET) inside Jim Wink Arena.

The Bulldogs fell behind in the opening half and trailed 50-30 at halftime as the Lakers avenged an earlier loss to FSU this season with the win.

In Thursday's contest, the Lakers shot 53% from the floor and limited FSU to 38% shooting en route to the win. The Lakers also made eight-of-15 (53%) three's to go with 16-of-19 (84%) free throws.

Ferris State was led by senior forward Taylor Adway, who finished with 12 points overall. Sophomore Jaylin McFadden also added 12 points in the setback as FSU closed the regular-season with a 20-11 overall mark.

The Lakers' Blake Marquardt tallied a game-high 26 points and hit six-of-nine three's in the contest with Rog Stein adding 19 points. Both Tim Cairnduff and Malek Adams contributed 11 points each.

Ferris State owned a 33-29 rebounding edge, but had 15 turnovers in the setback while the Lakers totaled 20 points off turnovers to only nine for FSU. LSSU also held a 14-2 margin in fast break scoring and totaled 38 points in the paint compared to 24 for FSU.

The winner of Tuesday's GLIAC Quarterfinal game will advance to the league semifinals and finals, which will be held at the site of the
highest remaining seed following the first round on Saturday and Sunday, March 9-10.
