HAMMOND, Ind. - The Lake Superior State University men's basketball team (9-11, 8-4 GLIAC) got back in the win column with a 71-67 victory over the Purdue Northwest Pride (11-11, 4-8 GLIAC) on Thursday.

The Lakers jumped out to an early 8-0 lead with back-to-back baskets from David Wren (Ypsilanti, Mich.). The Pride would eventually tie up the score at 17-17, but the Lakers responded with an 11-0 run as they let it fly from beyond the arc as Caden Ebeling (Shelby Twp., Mich.), Wren, and Xander Okerlund (Empire, Mich.) all hit from distance. Both teams would then trade baskets for the remainder as the Lakers took a 34-26 advantage into the locker room.

The Pride came out swinging to open the second half with a 9-0 run to take a slim lead, but another three from Okerlund gave momentum back to the Lakers as they would follow that up with a 7-0 run to push back out ahead. Ebeling would then go on a 6-0 run by himself to put his team back up by double-digits, and despite one final push from the Pride, the Lakers were able to ice the game away at the charity stripe to secure the 71-67 victory.

Ebeling led the way with 25 points while also leading all players in rebounding with 11 for the double-double, and both Wren and Okerlund joined him in double-digit scoring with 14 points each.

The Lakers return to action on Saturday, Feb. 4 when they take on the Rangers of Wisconsin-Parkside at 4 p.m. Eastern Standard TIme with a chance to pull themselves into a tie for first place in the GLIAC standings.
