Bulldogs top Huskies 6-1 in Houghton

HOUGHTON, Mich. - Michigan Tech women's tennis fell 6-1 to the 21st ranked Ferris State Saturday morning at Gates Tennis Center. The Bulldogs clinched the regular season Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title with a win in Houghton. The Huskies dropped their fourth straight match after picking up one singles victory against FSU. Dominika Bobik and Lauren Opalewski (MTU) pushed Agata Klak and Isabela Paixao (MTU) to a tiebreaker at No. 1 but Ferris State swept doubles for a 1-0 lead.

In singles, Ivona Gorgioski again played No. 1 but mustered just two games against Morgan Waller, 6-0, 6-2. Sophie Daavettila downed Bobik 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2 singles and Paixao won two close sets over Opalewski 6-4, 6-4 at No. 3. Neva Manas followed her three-set win Friday with a straight set loss Saturday 6-2, 6-1 to Klak. Marina Fernandez grabbed a Michigan Tech win at No. 5 over Patricia Gomez 6-2, 6-3. Mirna Golac lost 6-3, 6-3 at No. 6 to round out the lineup.

The Huskies (3-8, 3-4 GLIAC) conclude their homestand and the regular season Monday at 9 a.m. against Lake Superior State. Senior Mirna Golac will be recognized in her final match at Michigan Tech.
