Bulldogs Blitz Rangers To Open League Action

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's volleyball team opened Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play with a 3-0 sweep of the Parkside Rangers on Friday (Sept. 9) inside Jim Wink Arena.

Ferris State sophomore middle hitter Syann Fairfield led the Bulldog attack with 10 kills on the day, hitting .400 overall. Ferris State sophomore outside hitter Claire Nowicki and sophomore middle hitter Olivia Henneman-Dallape each added nine for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs held the Rangers to a .000 attack percentage on the night, while hitting .281 on their own, sweeping the Rangers 25-16, 25-14, 25-16 for the win.

Defensively, Ferris State sophomore libero Leah Bylut had 14 of the 46 Ferris State digs to lead all players in the match. At the net, Ferris State recorded three total blocks with five different players chipping in with one each. 

The Bulldogs racked up 16 service aces, one of the 10-best performances in school history in total service aces. Fairfield led the Bulldogs with four, while sophomore setter Kaylee Maat, freshman outside hitter Emma Bleecher, and freshman outside hitter Alina Anderson each notched three. 

The reigning GLIAC Setter of the Week, Ferris State's Maat added 36 assists on the day to go with eight digs for the Bulldogs.

Ferris State heads to Detroit to take on the Wayne State Warriros on Sunday (Sept. 11) at 4 p.m. (ET) as GLIAC play rolls along.
