Cardinals fall in GLIAC quarters to Warriors in three

DETROIT – The Saginaw Valley State University volleyball team traveled to Wayne State University for the quarterfinals of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament Wednesday in Detroit.

The Cardinals fell behind 2-0 after Wayne State took the first two sets 25-13, 25-16. SVSU rallied in the third and led 18-12. Wayne State finished the third on a 13-3 run to take the set 25-21 and close out the win over the Cardinals.

The season ends for SVSU with an overall record of 16-11. The Cardinals were 8-7 this season in the GLIAC.

Rylee Zimmer closed her strong season for SVSU with nine kills to lead the Cardinal offense. Haley Clum added six kills and three block assists, while Madison Thompson finished with six kills. Peyton Gerstacker finished with 24 assists for SVSU.

Taylor Wagner recorded a match-high 10 kills to lead Wayne State, which moves on to the GLIAC Semifinals later this at Michigan Tech.
