The Warriors outscored the Lakers 44-33 in the second half.

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University men's basketball team (9-12 overall, 3-9 GLIAC) broke through on Thursday night to snap a four-game losing streak defeating Grand Valley State (9-12 overall, 6-5 GLIAC) 73-66 inside the Fieldhouse.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half
Grand Valley State tallied the contest's first five points before Rob Lee, Jr. (Flint, Mich. / Beecher) scored the first of his game-high and personal-best 17 points thanks to a triple at the 16:45 mark.  The Lakers then stretched their lead to nine at 15-6 before the Warriors answered with seven points in a row to make it a two-point game, 15-13.

Five of those seven came from Carmelo Harris (Flint, Mich. / Beecher) while Jordan Briggs (Muskegon, Mich.) notched two of his own.

Following a three-pointer by the visitors, Harris sank a pair of free throws and Briggs hit a trey to tie the game up for the first time at 18-18.

Aside from a second tie at 24-24 following a Colin Golson, Jr. (Detroit, Mich. / Ferndale (Siena / Eastern Michigan)) free throw, the away team held the lead for the entirety of the first half.  After the first of two deadlocks, Grand Valley State's advantage was as big as six (24-18) before a halftime margin of four (33-29).

Wayne State improved to 3-4 this season when trailing at the intermission.

Second Half

The Lakers would carry that advantage for over nine more minutes before the game's third tie at 56-56 with four-plus minutes to go.  That deadlock came as part of a 12-5 spurt for the home team that put it ahead by three (64-61) at the two-minute warning.  Williams and Lee each scored five of those 12 while the final two came from Briggs.

Following the fourth and final tie at 64-64, the hosts took the lead and didn't look back.  From there until the final buzzer, the Warriors outscored the Lakers by seven (9-2) including a mark of 5-for-6 at the charity stripe.
