Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball squad opened a busy week of action at home on Tuesday (April 27), falling to Davenport 5-4 in nine innings in the opener before suffering a 4-1 decision in the nightcap.

The opening game of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) twin bill was tightly contested, with FSU rallying back from a 4-1 deficit after two innings to force extra innings with three runs in the bottom of the seventh.

However, Davenport produced the winning run in the top of the ninth and held FSU in the bottom of the frame to garner the win. DU had nine hits to eight for FSU.

The Bulldogs got two hits each in the opener from shortstop Kodi Ramirez along with outfielder Paige Kortz and first baseman Kaitlyn Orme. All three had RBI's as did catcher Ali Magiera. Orme doubled twice and Ramirez posted a double in the setback while right fielder Madison McLeod also garnered a hit and a run scored in the game.

FSU's Aryn Gallacher went one and two-thirds of an inning in the circle, allowing four runs on five hits with two strikeouts. Kristie Gray tossed seven and one-third of an inning while giving up only a single run on four hits to go with a walk. Davenport's Ellie Muilenburg posted her eighth win of the year, holding FSU to four runs on eight hits with 13 strikeouts and five walks in nine innings of action.

In game two, the Panthers scored twice in the third and twice more in the fourth to take the lead. FSU had its only run in the bottom of the fifth and both teams were limited to only five hits apiece.

The Bulldogs got hits in the finale from Ramirez along with McLeod, outfielder Abby Mitchell, designated player Evelyn Blood and second baseman Kacey Bouche. Mitchell had an RBI and Bouche scored FSU's lone run.

In the circle, Kaitlyn Nugent hurled four innings while allowing four runs on five hits to go with a pair of strikeouts. Kylie Masko also had two K's and pitched three innings, posting four walks while not allowing a hit or a run.

Ferris State will be back in action at home on Friday (April 30), hosting Parkside in GLIAC play. The two teams will take the field at 1 p.m. (ET) and finish a previous game from April 7 that was halted due to weather with the score tied 6-6 in the top of the seventh. They will then play a scheduled league doubleheader following the conclusion of the game.
