Ferris State Softball Falls In Regional Doubleheader At Findlay On Monday Afternoon

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball squad got back on the field Monday (March 21) for the first time in more than a week, but dropped a pair of regional road tilts to the Findlay Oilers in Findlay, Ohio.

The Bulldogs took an early four-run lead in the opener before falling 12-4 in six innings and Findlay then proceeded to win game two 19-7 in five innings of action.

In the opener, Ferris State scored three times in the first and held a 4-0 lead going into the fifth before the Oilers answered. UF scored four times in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game up and then responded with eight runs in the sixth to garner the triumph, posting a 10-8 edge in total hits.

The Bulldogs got two hits each from centerfielder Paige Kortz along with first baseman Kaitlyn Orme in the setback. Kortz recorded a double and Orme tripled, driving in a run for the Bulldogs.

In the circle, FSU's Aryn Gallacher tossed five and one-third innings, allowing eight runs on 10 hits with three walks and two strikeouts. Freshman Kristina Baar hurled one-third of an inning while giving up four runs with four walks and a strikeout.

In game two, Findlay struck for seven runs in the first and then pushed the lead to 18-3 after two despite the fact FSU had cut the margin back to four runs in the middle of the inning. The Bulldogs scored four times in the third, but Findlay added an insurance run in the fourth and kept FSU at bay the rest of the way. Overall, UF had 16 hits with FSU notching 10.

The Bulldogs had a pair of doubles in the game with one coming from Kylie Winkels and one by Kacey Bouche. Meanwhile, Amara Zukowski drove in four runs and homered while Josie Prince added two RBI's. Winkels posted two hits with both Orme and Zukowski scoring twice for the Bulldogs.

Ferris State utilized three different pitchers in the nightcap with the combination of Orme, Baar and Kristie Gray combining to give up 16 earned runs on 16 hits with five walks and four K's in four innings of work.

The Bulldogs will look to get back on track as they start GLIAC play this coming weekend on the road. FSU visits Saginaw Valley State on Saturday (March 26) for a conference doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m. (ET) in University Center before heading to Wayne State on Sunday (March 27) for an afternoon double dip also beginning at noon.
