Bulldogs Battle To Finish But Fall To #8 GVSU

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's basketball squad fell sell to rival and nationally 8th-ranked Grand Valley State 75-68 on Saturday (Feb. 5) in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action inside Jim Wink Arena before a large crowd.

Ferris State senior guard Adrienne Anderson narrowly missed a triple double to lead the Bulldogs with 14 points, nine assists and eight boards on the day. Bulldog junior forward Chloe Idoni led Ferris State in scoring with 19 points overall while junior guard Mallory McCartney added 13 points to go with seven rebounds and five assists. 

The Bulldogs outscored the Lakers in the second and fourth quarters, but could not overcome the nine-point differential the Lakers bult in the first and third stanzas. 

Ferris State shot it 36.9 percent from the field on the afternoon, but just 28.6 percent from deep at eight-of-28 on the afternoon. Grand Valley shot 49.1 percent from the floor in the game. Ferris State made two more triples than GVSU, but the Lakers went 15-of-22 (68.2%) from the free throw line.

FSU fought foul trouble as three Bulldog starters finished with three or more on the day. 

The Lakers used their depth as the GVSU reserves outscored Ferris State's 22-8 on the night. The Lakers also had 34 points in the paint to Ferris State's 22.

On the glass, the Bulldogs won the battle 38-32, which included 15 offensive boards. Eight Bulldogs had multiple rebounds. Off the bench, freshman forward Mya Hiram had six board on the day.

Grand Valley State was led in scoring by Emily Spitzley's 18 points while Rylie Bisballe had 15 for GVSU. They also got 11 from Hannah Kulas, who finished three-of-five from long range.

The Lakers improved to 19-1 overall and 12-1 in the GLIAC with FSU falling to 15-7 overall and 9-5 in league play.

Ferris State is back in action on Thursday (Feb. 10) when the Bulldogs venture to Sault Ste. Marie to take on the Lake Superior State Lakers at 5:30 p.m. (ET) inside Bud Cooper Gymnasium.
