Women's Tennis Falls to Northwood in a GLIAC Match

MIDLAND, Mich. - The Lake Superior State women's tennis team fell to the Northwood Timberwolves on Friday, April 9 by a final score of 6-1 in the team's first Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) match of the weekend at the Greater Midland Tennis Center in Midland, Mich. Through the first five matches of the season, the Lakers hold a 2-3 overall record and a 1-2 record in conference play. 

Lake Superior State lost the doubles point to the Timberwolves as Northwood won all three sets against the Lakers. The Lakers top pair of Keegan Malpass and Claudia Sole fell by a score of 6-0, the No. 2 pairing of Julia Fraile Raton and Muskaan Ranjan dropped a close set by a 7-5 score, and the team's third pair of Milena Baigorria and Riley Gilman lost their set (6-2).  

In singles play, Sole won the lone set for the Lakers against Northwood. Sole, the Lakers No. 3 singles player, won in three sets over Rafaella Fulop by scores of 6-4, 5-7, and 10-7. The remaining five Laker players dropped their matches to a tough Northwood opponent. 

Looking Ahead

The Lakers will continue conference play tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. against the Saginaw Valley State Cardinals. The match will also take place at the Greater Midland Tennis Center in Midland, Mich.
