Laker Men's Tennis Conclude Season in GLIAC Opening Round

MIDLAND, Mich. - The Lake Superior State University (LSSU) men's tennis program (7-6, 2-4 GLIAC) fell to the Grand Valley State (GVSU) Lakers (12-8, 3-3 GLIAC) in the opening round of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament by a final score of 4-0 on Friday.

Grand Valley claimed a 6-2 win at the No. 3 doubles spot, and they would then secure the doubles point by a 6-4 margin over Jordi Fraile Raton (Sant Cugat del Valles, Spain) and Raul Velasco Garcia (Barcelona, Spain) to take the early 1-0 advantage.

GVSU would then secure victories at the No. 1, No. 3, and No. 4 singles positions to clinch the match and move on to the semifinals. The remaining matches would be left unfinished.

Despite the loss, LSSU was able to get a strong opening set from senior Aaron Osmond (Cheltenham, U.K.) at the top singles position, and Fraile was able to push his opponent in a highly competitive second set at the no. 4 spot.
