Volleyball Prepares for Midwest Crossover

TIFFIN, Ohio - Women's volleyball will take a break from GMAC competition this weekend as they travel to Indianapolis for the Midwest Region Crossover to face top schools from the GLIAC and GLVC. Ashland is currently fourth in the overall GLIAC standings, while UIndy and Bellarmine are tied for third in the GLVC.

Dragon Details:

Tiffin has won four of their last five matches, all via sweeps, with the only loss coming to No. 16 Hillsdale. Last Saturday, the Dragons swep rival Findlay for the first time since 2010, also earning their first win over the Oilers since the 2011 season.

The Dragons are in the top 25 nationally in multiple categories, ranking 19th with 935 kills, 22nd with 854 assists, and 23rd with 38.56 attacks per set.

Individually, Jenna Huffman is second in all of Division II in both kills per set with 4.61 and points per set with 5.20. The senior is also fourth in attacks per set with 12.42.

Loryn Huffman is 14th nationally with 719 total assists on the season, averaging 10.13 per set. Sam Fallis leads the team in digs per set (4.46) and aces (27), while Grace Schreiber has taken over the team lead with 49 total blocks (six solo, 43 assisted).

Scouting the Eagles:

From Sept. 14 to Oct. 4, Ashland went on a nine-game win streak, but the Eagles have lost two of their last three to Saginaw Valley and Michigan Tech.

Ashland is 17th nationally with 13.04 assists per set and 22nd with 13.87 kills per set.

The Eagles have a trio of hitters with over 3.0 kills per set, led by Erin Krupar at 3.61. She is followed by Brooke Peiffer (3.29) and Sophi Cudworth (3.12).

Zoey Peck is second in the country with 797 total assists on the year, and her 11.55 assists per set mark ranks ninth. McKinley Smith leads the team with 4.61 digs per set and 14 aces, while Lexi Lombardo has 59 blocks and Chelsey Farris has 53.

Scouting the Greyhounds:

Indianapolis enters the weekend on a three-game win streak, including a sweep of Bellarmine and a 3-2 upset over No. 6 Lewis last Friday.

The Dragons and Greyhounds met earlier this season during the Tiffin/Findlay Tournament on Sept. 20. TU took the first two sets from UIndy, but the Greyhounds rallied to win the next three and take the match.

Katie Furlong is 24th nationally with an impressive 4.00 kills per set and 19th in total kills at 264. Taylor Jacquay also has 3.02 kills pet set for UIndy.

Alyssa Spears is 16th in DII with 11.15 assists per set, and also leads the team with 13 aces.

MaKenna Barnhart leads UIndy with 3.66 digs per set, while Elizabeth Eads and Kyra Simmons are one and two with 33 and 32 blocks, respectively.

Scouting the Knights:

Other than the sweep at the hands of UIndy, Bellarmine has won five of six including a sweep of No. 6 Lewis.

The Dragons and Knights met in Louisville back on Sept. 14, with Bellarmine earning a sweep. However, all three sets were close, with Tiffin scoring 22 twice and a low of 21.

Freshman Jayme Scott leads the team with 3.55 kills per set and 19 aces, followed by Abbie Oetting at 2.88 kills per set and team-highs in a .306 hitting percentage and 39 total blocks.

Kristen O'Toole handles the majority of the setting duties with 10.89 assists per set and Karleigh Wilson leads the team with 4.38 digs per set.
