Men's Tennis Powers Past Hillsdale, 5-2

The Warriors won at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.

TOLEDO, Ohio -- The Wayne State University men's tennis team (7-1 overall) continued the early part of its Spring season on Sunday with an impressive 5-2 win at previously unbeaten Hillsdale (6-1 overall).

DOUBLES RESULTS
Junior Niklas Karcz (Bottrop, Germany) and freshman Luke Laws (Sunderland, England) lost at the top flight of doubles to start the day, 6-3.

However, a 7-6 (7-4) win by sophomore Max Rink (Wetzlar, Germany) and senior Pierre Renaudie (Sathonay-Camp, France) at No. 3 doubles and a 7-6 (7-5) win at No. 2 doubles by the duo of f
reshman Dom Spicer (London, England) and sophomore David Solar (Prague, Czech Republic) secured the doubles point for the Green & Gold.

"It was a hard-fought doubles win to get the point," said head coach Bryan Morrow.  "We pulled out two tiebreakers to get the win so that was very exciting.  The guys showed a lot of heart and guts."

SINGLES RESULTS
Solar was the first off the court after winning 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6 singles.

"David played great and was lights out," stated Morrow. "He made very few mistakes and got the game ball for his strong performance."

Karcz fell 6-7 (2-7) before retiring at No. 1 singles but Renaudie picked up Wayne State by winning 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 singles.

"Pierre looked great," continued Morrow."  "It was probably the most complete match he has played this year.  He had a lot of smart points and played a really mature match."

Rink was victorious 6-3, 6-3 at the third flight of singles, while Laws lost 4-6, 6-4, 6-10 at No. 4 singles.

Spicer finished the match with a 5-7, 6-4, 10-4 win at No. 5 singles.
