Chargers fall 7-0 in road loss to Wayne State

The Hillsdale College men's tennis team continued an extremely difficult stretch of matches against top opponents in the Midwest Region with a 7-0 loss to Wayne St. on Saturday at the Franklin Athletic Center in Southfield, Michigan.

Sophomore Brennan Cimpeanu made his return from injury for the Chargers, competing in the doubles portion, but Hillsdale was unable to secure any of the three doubles matches. Cimpeanu and partner Daniel Gilbert lost 6-3 at No. 2 doubles, while sophomore Sam Clyde and junior Bogdan Janiciejevic took a 6-3 loss at No. 3 doubles as well for the Chargers.

In singles play, sophomore Daniel Gilbert came the closest to pulling out his match for Hillsdale, falling 6-4, 6-1 to Niklas Karcz of Wayne St. in a solid fight at No. 3 singles. The Warriors were able to capture the other four contested flights in straight sets, while Hillsdale defaulted at No. 6 singles.

The Chargers host Northwood tomorrow, Sunday, at 2 p.m. looking to snap a three-match losing streak and get back on track. Hillsdale (2-5) has just two matches remaining before its Spring Break Florida trip, with the G-MAC schedule starting after the Chargers return home after two matches in Florida.
