Bulldogs Clinch Outright GLIAC Regular Season Title With Win Over Lakers

Big Rapids, Mich - The nationally 11th ranked Ferris State University men's basketball team finished their regular season with a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) victory over the Lake Superior State Lakers on Thursday (Feb. 27) inside Jim Wink Arena to clinch the outright GLIAC Regular Season Championship.

Ferris State junior wing Dorian Aluyi had a game-best 21 points for the Bulldogs, while junior guard Walt Kelser added 19 point of his own to go with a team-best nine rebounds. Ferris State junior forward Logan Ryan chipped in 14 points.

In the first half, Ferris State doubled-up the Lakers from beyond the arc with eight triples to LSSU's four, and took a nine-point lead to the break. The Bulldogs never trailed in the contest and led by as much as 15 in the opening frame. 

Ferris State junior wing Dorian Aluyi did the majority of his damage in the opening frame with 14 points on 5-6 shooting, including a pair of free throws.

In the second frame, Ferris State pulled away, as the Bulldog reserves outscored the Laker bench 24-14 in the contest.

The Lakers held a 44-42 edge in rebounds, and were led in scoring by Justin Fischer who had 16 points for LSSU.

The Bulldogs held the Lakers to 35.9 percent shooting on the day and shot 42.9 percent. At the free throw stripe, Ferris State shot 86.7 percent, while the Lakers struggled and hit just 62.5 percent of their charity stripe attempts on the day, to go with just 25 percent of their three-point shots (6-24)

Ferris State hit 11 triples on the night, including Aluyi's team-best three for the contest.

The Bulldogs have clinched the number one overall seed in the GLIAC tournament, and will play in the GLIAC Quarterfinals inside Jim Wink Arena on Tuesday (March 3) at with game-time to be announced later tonight. Should the Bulldogs advance, Ferris State will earn the right to host the GLIAC Tournament's Championship Weekend (March 7-8) inside Jim Wink Arena.
