UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University softball team remained home for a fourth consecutive series to host rival Northwood University for a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader on Thursday.

Emily Depew pitched a five-inning, perfect game for the Cardinals in the opener as SVSU won 8-0. Northwood stifled the Cardinal offense in the second game to escape with a 1-0 win and a split in the series.

The split ends the SVSU win streak at 11 games and moves the Cardinals to 29-13 overall and 15-5 in the GLIAC.

Game One Breakdown:

• The Cardinals opened with three runs in the first, including an RBI single from Sara Moos and a two-run triple from Blasia Moyler.
• The Cardinals used a squeeze play off the bat of Jessica Kreuzer in the fourth to bring home Moyler to make it 4-0.
• After RBIs from Jackie Popko and Blasia Moyler to start the fifth, Maddie Campagna ended the contest with a two-run single later in the inning.
• Emily Depew (11-7) was dominant for the Cardinals on the mound. She pitched five perfect innings, striking out five.
• Moyler was 3-for-3 at the plate, with a triple, three RBIs, and two runs scored.

Game Two Breakdown:

• Northwood took a 1-0 lead on an RBI fielder's choice in the first inning giving the game its only run.
• The best scoring opportunity for the Cardinals came in the fifth when SVSU loaded the bases with one out. Northwood made two diving plays in the field to rob SVSU of any runs to stay in front 1-0.
• Shayna Frank pitched a complete-game shutout for the Timberwolves, limiting SVSU to five hits.
• Julia Mundy (10-3) was nearly as dominant for the Cardinals, pitching seven innings, allowing one run on five hits, walking one, and striking out seven.
